How drivers can download and log in to the Whip Around mobile app

Updated over a week ago

Whip Around's first solution ever built was an inspection app for you – drivers. It made the DVIR inspection process much faster and more efficient. It was the first step in supporting you as a driver so that you could do what you love best – drive.

Today, the mobile app has many more jobs it can support you with daily, from conducting inspections to managing driver documents, being across work orders and defects, and meeting compliance.

Our team has built apps specifically for both Android and iOS apps, which means when you download and use the app, it'll work seamlessly as it's built specifically for those devices.

The driver app is the same app that admins, managers, and mechanics use – the only difference between roles is the permissions levels and the features the role has access to in the mobile app. Have a look at this article to see the different permission levels of roles.

1. Download the driver Whip Around mobile app on an Andriod or Apple device

There are two ways to download the mobile app onto your device

  1. Send a text and tap the link

  2. From the iOS App store or Google Play store (App Store Links)

Tap the link

When your manager sets up an account for you on the main Whip Around platform, they will be able to send you a text message with a link in it.

You will receive a link to download the app from the iOS App store if you have an Apple device, or the Google Play store if you have an Android device.

Tap the link in the SMS message to go to the store.

From the iOS App store or Google Play store

If you're on an Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play store. Search for Whip Around, and download the app.

If you're on an Apple iPhone or iPad, open the App store, search for Whip Around, and download the app.

2. Log in to the Whip Around app

There are three ways to log into the Whip Around app

Your manager will set up your username and password for you. Once your manager has your login information set up, you will receive a text message with a link to log into the app. The link will already have your username and password stored in it – so you don't need to do anything except click the link.

Click the login link in the text message.

Tip: Keep the text message so you can use the link again when you need it.

1. Use SMS login

The next time you want to log into the app, choose "Use SMS login".

You'll be prompted to add your mobile number. This needs to be the same mobile number that it in your profile in the Whip Around account.

Click the "Send SMS link" button, and you'll receive the text message with the link inside.

Click the link and you'll automatically be logged into the app.

2. Use biometrics to log in

You'll need to ensure that the biometrics are enabled on your device to use biometric login.

Whip Around supports two options for biometrics login

Touch ID on iOS and Fingerprint login on Andriod

Face ID on iOS and Facial recognition on Andriod

3. Login with a username or password

The first time you log in manually, you'll need to know your username and password (provided by your manager); you can log in to the app by manually entering that information.

Open the app, enter your username and password, and tap "Log in".

The next time you log in using a username and password, the screen will look more like this one.

Forgotten your password? Ask your manager, or reset it yourself. You'll be presented with the option to reset your password when you login using SMS.

Then, in future you can choose to login using your username and password if you'd like to.

A quick note on logging out

Unless your manager logs you out, once you are logged in, the app will not log you out even if you close the app. You will not be logged out unless you tap Log Out.

To log out, tap into your profile and select the blue text link Log out on the top right-hand side of the screen.

If you share your device with another driver, we recommend logging out after you are finished, so another driver doesn't accidentally complete inspections under your account.

3. Enable location sharing and push notifications

Upon downloading the Whip Around app for the first time, you will be prompted to allow Whip Around to see your location and send you push notifications. We recommend selecting Allow or granting permission in Settings.

Once you've granted permission to allow access, Whip Around can send you notifications when your manager has fixed an issue you reported, or remind you to complete your inspection if you haven't done so, and other important notifications.

If you enabled location sharing, keep in mind that Whip Around is NOT a GPS tracking app, and we will not be able to follow your vehicle when you are using/not using the app. If you enable location sharing, Whip Around will simply be able to put a location stamp of where you are when you submit your inspection, which is an essential piece of information on your vehicle inspection reports.
